Hawaiian Ham and Swiss Sandwich
The Hawaiian Ham and Swiss Sandwich for lunch is a spicy sweet quick solution for lunch.
French Bread Rolls – sliced in half sandwich style.
Deli Sliced Thin Ham (about 6 slices per sandwich)
Fresh Horseradish**
Swiss Cheese (about 4 slices for each sandwich)
Pineapple Rings (2-3 rings per sandwich)
Butter
On a griddle or in a large flat pan, place buttered sides of a french roll face down on the pan to toast.
When toasted remove from the griddle or pan.
Place both halves back on the griddle or pan, horseradish side up, and layer the bottom piece of bread roll with first two slices of swiss cheese, then the deli ham, then the pineapple, then another two slices of swiss cheese.
Place the top of the bread roll on the sandwich and press down using a bacon press or a sandwich press. Cover for two to three minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
Serve with your choice of potato salad, cole slaw or french fried potatoes.
The sweetness of the pineapple and the addition of the horseradish is a great combination with the swiss cheese and ham.
If you have a Panini Press this sandwich is easy to prepare there also.
** Always use fresh ground horseradish. Not “Horseradish Sauce” which is diluted with mayonnaise and other ingredients. My personal favorite is a simple horseradish, in a simple package, from Silver Springs Foods, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The best I’ve ever had, save grinding my own. I can find it in Anchorage, Alaska, at the DoD Commissary.
